Before you buy

Robinhood Chain carries two very different kinds of token: stock tokens, issued by a Robinhood company and tied to a share’s price, and memecoins, which anyone can launch. Here is how to tell them apart.

In 30 seconds

- A stock token is a debt security issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited.
- It gives economic exposure to a share, not the share itself or any rights in it.
- A memecoin is a token anyone launched; its price is whatever its market says.

## Side by side.

## Who can buy them.

Robinhood’s page says only Authorised Participants may subscribe for new stock tokens from the issuer. Separately, market makers can mint and burn them only in a tokenization window, Monday 02:00 to Saturday 02:00 CET/CEST; people can still buy and sell them on chain outside it.

The page also says they may not be offered, sold or delivered in the United States, that offers and sales are restricted in other countries, naming Canada, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and that the products described are not available to UK persons. Read [Robinhood’s stock token page](https://docs.robinhood.com/chain/stock-tokens) before you trade one.

## Spot a real one.

On chain, Robinhood’s stock tokens carry names ending “• Robinhood Token”, such as “NVIDIA • Robinhood Token”. A name proves nothing: anyone can launch a coin called that, on the same ticker. Check the address against the token contracts Robinhood publishes in its docs.

**Not on our home page’s list.**The “Top coins on Robinhood Chain” links on Uprally’s home page leave stock tokens out, and coins that copy their tickers.

## Common questions.

**Is a stock token the same as owning the share?**

No. Robinhood’s page says it gives economic exposure only, with no legal or beneficial rights in the underlying share.

**Why is there a coin with a stock ticker that isn’t Robinhood’s?**

Anyone can launch a coin with any ticker. Only the address tells you which one it is.

**Is this advice to buy either?**

No. Data and Robinhood’s own words, nothing more.
